Health care waste

Sanitary waste is considered that which is generated in health centres, services and establishments (which could be involved in health promotion, health care, social health care, biomedical research or veterinary care). For management purposes, health waste regulations distinguish operations within the centre, which form part of the internal management of the producers of this waste, and operations outside the centre, which are carried out by these producers and monitored by the Agència de Residus de Catalunya. Sanitary waste is classified into four groups, according to how biologically hazardous it is. Waste in group III is notable, as it requires a specific treatment before its final management.
