Construction waste and demolition

In accordance with the regulations, construction waste is considered that which is generated during construction or demolition work. This definition does not include soil from excavation that is to be reused on the construction site or on another authorised site.

A high volume of construction waste is generated in Catalonia. Due to its characteristics, much of this waste can be reused or recycled. Therefore, due to its importance, there is a specific management programme and management model for this waste. After a period of consolidation in which the aim is to attain the correct final management, the focus will be on prevention, recycling and the promotion of a market for recycled materials.

According to Law 2/2014 of 27 January, fiscal, administrative, financial and public sector in the first additional provision is a tax moratorium on waste disposal and building back fees accrued.

It is based on actions of prevention and on maximum reuse and material recovery of waste. It establishes the principle of producer responsibility and sets an objective where 50% of waste is recycled by 2012.
